Clipping Penalty in Football
What is a Clipping Penalty?
The Clipping penalty is called when a player blocks an opposing player from behind and below the waist area. Of course, this penatly is only called when this occurs against an player that is not carrying the ball.
Number of Yards
There is a 15 yard penalty in both the NFL and College Football. If the defense commits the penalty the offense is also awarded and automatic first down.
The Signal
When signaling the Clipping penalty the referee will take one hand and make a chopping motion toward the back of one thigh.
