The English Premier league is made up of 20 clubs/teams and the season runs from August through May. Each team plays every other team two times, once at home and once away, for a total of 38 games. The league does not have a Playoff System, but instead uses a point system throughout the season. When a team wins they are awarded three points, a draw is awarded one point. No points are awarded for a loss. At the end of each season, the club with the most points is crowned champion. If there is a tie, the difference in goals would then decide the winner.
Promotion and Demotion
The Premier League is at the "top of the food chain" in the English Football League System. Each year the bottom 3 placing teams are removed from the Premier League and placed into the Football League Championship which is 2nd in ranks in the English Football League System. The top 2 teams in the Football League Championship are promoted to the Premier League and then the 3rd-6th place teams compete in a playoff to determine the final team that will be competing in the Premier League the following year.
